Book Club at the MFA – Kitchen

Join Keep St. Pete Lit, a local organization that supports the literary community, for a book club connecting the visual and literary arts. Each month’s featured book will relate to the MFA’s collection or special exhibitions.

June 14: Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto

Kitchen is an enchantingly original and deeply affecting tale about mothers, love, tragedy, and the power of the kitchen in contemporary Japan. A book centered on healing and loss, and the families we build when ours disappear, Kitchen follows 20-something Mikage Sakurai after the death of her last family member. She entwines herself into the lives of her childhood friend and his transgender mother, building a new life to protect herself from the grief of her past. This unique storyteller complements our exhibition of contemporary Japanese ceramics, We Do Not Work Alone.

June Book Club will start at 6:00 pm
Free with Museum admission, which is only $5 after 5 pm on Thursday.
