Today’s program is entitled All About Focus. Encounter the pioneering nineteenth-century British photographer Julia Margaret Cameron, known for her celebrity portraits and images with allegorical themes. She was born in colonial India, educated in France, and met her beloved husband Charles Hay Cameron while visiting Cape Town, South Africa in 1837. A remarkable woman with daring instincts, she differed from other wellborn Victorians who took up the camera in that she took to mastering the creative photographic process seriously. She brought to her work a passionate belief in the transformative power of art, and found in the camera a tool to express her “deeply seated love of the beautiful.”
