12th Annual Painting in the Park

Bring your little artists downtown for an afternoon of creative, educational hands-on arts and crafts projects at the Museum of Fine Arts! The event includes 13 fun and engaging art stations, such as making wearable racehorse costumes out of cardboard boxes and using watercolors, metallic markers, yarn and fingerpaint to create make-and-take paintings.

At each station, you’ll find information about a work of art on view in the MFA Galleries with a project that directly ties to that work of art. For example, Georgia O’Keeffe’s Poppy (1927), serves as the inspiration for creating a poppy field on our lawn! Kids will learn about famous works of art, while making their own creations with brushes, tempera sticks, pipettes and even their own feet! We love introducing museums and encouraging creativity at an early age, and in a unique way, engaging with beloved works of art right here in our community. Activities are for toddlers, tweens and in-betweens, and adults are welcomed to join in on the fun too!

Budding artists can also work together on cool, collaborative activities like painting the outside of the NOMAD (Neighborhood Oriented Mobile Art and Design) Art Bus and using remote-control cars with paint on the wheels to create designs on large butcher paper. And, we’ll have a dog-watering station for our four-legged friends.

There will be beverages, food trucks offering savory meals and sweet treats and beer from Green Bench Brewery.  Please join us at the MFA for this FREE event for kids of all ages and the opportunity for families to experience museums in a different way!

FREE for everyone!
