dr-emily-schuchardt-navratil

Dr. Emily Schuchardt Navratil

This outstanding series features some of the world’s foremost art historians, curators, artists, and collectors. Everyone is invited to these free lectures. An always elegant reception for Collectors Circle members, also sponsored by Northern Trust, is held one hour before the lecture. Cynthia Astrack is President of the Collectors Circle.

Dr. Emily Schuchardt Navratil, Associate Curator of The Vilcek Foundation in New York, will discuss a topic related to American Modernism, including the large-scale Stuart Davis painting on view in the Howard Acheson Gallery. That work is on loan from The Vilcek Foundation.

Dr. Navratil has been involved with The Jan and Marica Vilcek Collection since 2009, having previously served as Assistant Curator and Curatorial Assistant. She has also held positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Montclair Art Museum in New Jersey.

Her interests are expansive, from Native North American art and its impact on interior design and women’s fashion between the World Wars to Piet Mondrian and Willem de Kooning. In 2013, she curated With Color to coincide with the publication of Masterpieces of American Modernism: From The Vilcek Collection. She has also contributed to such catalogues as Cézanne and American Modernism, Picasso in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and American Vanguards: Graham, Davis, Gorky, De Kooning, and Their Circle.

Dr. Navratil earned her PhD from the Graduate Center City University of New York, her MA from Hunter College, and her BA from Trinity College, all in art history.

Collectors Circle Lectures are free with MFA admission and are open to the public.
