Boin–Taburet

French, active Paris, 1873–circa 1905

Chocolate Pot

c. 1880

Silver plate and wood

Anonymous gift

1990.13

The smaller scale of this vessel indicates that its use was likely for chocolate not coffee. Inspired by the style during Louis XVI’s reign in the 18th century, it contrasts with the more restrained surfaces of English silver: its sensuously curved embellishments and wave design at the edges delight the eye. The transverse handle was common among French pots.
