1000 Paper Cranes Folding Party

In Japan there is a long-standing tradition that a person who folds 1,000 cranes will be granted their deepest wish. Join us in folding 1,000 cranes to send to Japan on July 27th!

During this special folding event, students from St. Petersburg’s Sister City in Takamatsu, Japan will be here teaching us how to fold cranes in several different ways! (Instructional workshops will be held 10am-12noon.) We’ll supply the folding paper and the instructions!

We’ll be sending these cranes to the Children’s Peace Monument in Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima, Japan, to join cranes sent from all around the world. This FAMILY-FRIENDLY event will be fun for kids of all ages.

The idea of origami as a tool for peace is one that special exhibition “Above the Fold” artist Miri Golan also utilizes in her work. Learn more about many ways origami is used in the contemporary world in our exhibition “Above the Fold: New Expressions in Origami” – on view through September 22.

Free with Museum admission.
