Field Trip with the MFA Collectors Circle: Appleton Museum of Art, Ocala, Florida

For our Friend, Benefactor, Sustainer & Advocate level members only.

The MFA’s support group, Collectors Circle, is taking a bus trip to Ocala to visit the Appleton Museum of Art, led by Senior Curator of Early Western Art Michael Bennett, PhD. The group will be introduced to the Appleton’s permanent collection of mostly European works of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and tour the special exhibition, Across the Atlantic: American Impressionism through a French Lens. The group will also enjoy the Museum’s holiday decorations, showcasing the annual Dickens Christmas and themed trees, and dine at La Cuisine, an award-winning French restaurant in downtown Ocala with a unique, bistro atmosphere.

Across the Atlantic — drawn mostly from the collection of the Reading Public Museum in Reading, Pennsylvania — features more than 65 paintings and works on paper that illustrate the path to Impressionism through the 19th century in France. According to the Appleton, “the show examines the sometimes complex relationship between French Impressionism of the 1870s and 80s and the American interpretation of the style in the decades that followed.”

The bus will depart at the North Shore Pool parking lot at 8:40 am sharp, with an estimated return time of 7 pm.

Cost: $100, plus a requested $50 donation to the Collectors Circle
