Deck the Great Hall 2019 – Holiday Open House

Each year, the Museum of Fine Arts celebrates the holiday season with a holiday tree placed in the MFA’s Great Hall, decorated by provisional members of The Stuart Society. This year, the Museum is thrilled to celebrate the second annual Deck the Great Hall event, wherein a leading contemporary artist is commissioned to create original artwork for the Museum’s holiday celebration. The custom tree ornaments are available for purchase with all proceeds going to the Museum of Fine Arts. This year’s commissioned artist is Miami-based sculptor Brookhart Jonquil, who uses industrial materials and geometric precision to explore theories of infinity and utopia.

Please join us for a Holiday Open House on Thursday, November 21 for a tree lighting event with the artist from 6 – 8 pm to unveil the ornament design. We’ll have live music and hot chocolate for our visitors, as well as holiday cookies. Refreshments will be available. Admission to the MFA collection galleries will be FREE for all visitors starting at 6 pm. (Note that the special exhibition galleries will be closed during this event.)

Jonquil was born in Santa Cruz, California and lives and works in Miami, Florida. He received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2010, as well as a Bachelor in Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Arizona in 2007. Jonquil has exhibited internationally at venues including the Floodlight Foundation Residency and Art India in Delhi, India in 2017, and in art fairs and gallery exhibitions in Italy and Uruguay. His work has been exhibited at museums across the United States and is represented by Emerson Dorsch.

This event is generously sponsored by The Stuart Society.
