August 3 | Lunchtime Lecture: Mobile Art
What makes art accessible? How does context and location change our perceptions of it? What happens when you put art on the road? These are all questions that will be addressed during our panel discussion focusing on the idea of mobile art. This talk will feature Carrie Boucher of NOMAD Art Bus, Rebecca Sexton Larson of Boxfotos, and Mitzi Gordon of Bluebird Books.

Carrie Boucher is the founder of NOMADstudio (the Neighborhood-Oriented Mobile Art & Design Studio) and the NOMAD Art Bus, a community-focused art studio and classroom. Boucher returned to Pinellas County after ten years in Chicago studying at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and working as a metalsmith. While teaching at the Seminole charter school Plato Academy, she inspired to create her unique public studio, opening up the world of art practice to diverse audiences. https://www.facebook.com/NOMADartbus

Husband and wife photographers Matt Larson and Rebecca Sexton Larson launched Boxfotos Airstream as a way to fund their travels and to create more opportunities to teach. Although they often travel together on photo shoots, their photographs are not collaborative and both have their own style and creative vision. Sexton Larson is a photo-based visual artist working primarily with historical photographic processes. She graduated from the University of South Florida with degrees in Fine Arts and Mass Communications. She was awarded Florida Individual Artist Fellowships in 1998, 2002, and 2008, and in 2005, was commissioned by the City of Tampa to be its third Photographer Laureate.

Bluebird Books is a literary-themed mobile project housed in a converted short bus – part bookshop, part art house, it’s a vehicle where readers of all ages can explore the written word. Founder Mitzi Gordon is a writer, editor and artist who works as Executive Director for Creative Pinellas. Bluebird Books is the latest incarnation of her lifelong love affair with books and writing. She holds a journalism degree from New York University. http://www.thebluebirdbus.com/bluebirdbooks/
