SWEET: Urban Beekeeping at the Museum of Fine Arts

Have you heard the news?  We have several new honey bee colonies on our rooftop thanks to Noble Nectar Apiaries. Our new buzzing friends are working hard at pollinating the urban gardens of downtown St. Petersburg. With city parks immediately north and south of the MFA, the bees benefit from the great variety of plant species in close proximity to the museum.

Join Becky Dineen of the Plant Industry of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Maura Scanlon, professor, biologist and, the faculty adviser for the SPC Student Chapter of the Tampa Bay Association of Environmental Professionals, for a fascinating look at a live hive and the quickly growing urban bee culture in St. Petersburg.

Explore the benefits of urban beekeeping, best practices in urban hive management, and listen in as these two bee experts dispel popular myths about bees.

Free with Museum Admission ($10 after 5 pm on Thursdays!)
