We are kicking off the 2021 MFA Book Club with the Pulitzer Prize-nominated debut by author Hernan Diaz, In the Distance. A Western unlike any other in recent history, the novel explores and critiques the American creation story through the eyes of Håkan Söderström, a Swedish boy walking across 19th-century America in search of his brother. Penniless and alone, in his arduous journey he encounters naturalists, criminals, religious fanatics, swindlers, Indians, and lawmen, and his exploits turn him into a legend.
