VIRTUAL Cocktails & Collections

Every 3rd Thursday of the month, join us for a live virtual event featuring art from the MFA’s special exhibitions and newly-renovated Collection galleries. Make an art-inspired signature cocktail ahead of time (we’ll provide the recipe), and enjoy a specially curated art tour from home!

Featured exhibition — Antioch Reclaimed

Join Dr. Michael Bennett, senior curator of Early Western Art, as he takes us on a journey through time with the exciting exhibition, Antioch Reclaimed. In 1964, a year before it opened to the public, the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg acquired five mosaic floors from ancient Antioch in a purchase from Princeton University. Antioch Reclaimed: Ancient Mosaics at the MFA will feature these recently cleaned and conserved mosaics, which date from the 2nd to the 5th centuries AD. They will be combined with other major works excavated at Antioch to present a vivid picture of the sophistication and prosperity of this great Greco-Roman city.

Signature cocktail — Turkish Delight  (Get recipe here)

He served as Keeper of the Coins (Curator of Ancient Coins) in the Department of Ancient Art, Harvard University, from 1989-1994. From 1995-1998 he was curator of Classical Art at the Tampa Museum of Art. For the next two decades (1998-2018), he was curator of Greek and Roman Art at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and is now senior curator of Early Western Art at the MFA, St. Petersburg. He has written many publications, including From Chaos to Order: Greek Geometric Art from the Sol Rabin Collection, the catalogue for the exhibition of the same name published by the MFA in 2020.
