A gift from her obachan\, it holds special memories of her grandmother’s visit last summer. And Suki is going to wear it on her first day back to school — no matter what anyone says. When it’s Suki’s turn to share with her classmates what she did during the summer\, she tells them about the street festival she attended with her obachan and the circle dance that they took part in. In fact\, she gets so carried away reminiscing that she’s soon humming the music and dancing away\, much to the delight of her entire class!Filled with gentle enthusiasm and a touch of whimsy\, Suki’s Kimono is the joyful story of a little girl whose spirit leads her to march — and dance — to her own drumbeat.

SUMMARY:Koinobori Children's Day
DESCRIPTION:Koinobori Children’s Day\nFamilies are invited to visit the Museum of Fine Arts to learn about and celebrate Koinobori\, the Japanese national holiday that translates to “carp streamers.” Koinobori is Japan’s Children’s Day\, traditionally celebrated on May 5th each year\, where communities gather for a festival filled with colorful carp kites. The MFA will honor this holiday in conjunction with the museum’s special exhibition\, Kimono: The Triumph of Japanese Dress\, where similar imagery and symbolism often seen on carp kites can be found. These carp kites (also known as carp windsocks or streamers) are created to represent each family member and celebrate children and their well-being. When a family’s carp kites are hung together on one pole\, they symbolize strength\, determination\, and perseverance—qualities embodied by the carp itself. \n  \n\n\n\n\nKoinobori Children’s Day\nSunday\, May 4\, 2025\n10:00 AM–12:00 PM\nFront Steps of the Museum of Fine Arts\, St. Petersburg\nFREE for everyone! \n  \n

A beautiful story about everyday magic.\n“A loving survey of the queer community in all its diversity. . . . With affirming discussions of togetherness and LGBTQ+ rights\, the book’s final takeaway that ‘being yourself is a blast’ hits just the right note.” —Booklist \nPride’s . . . a day that means “Together\, we are strong!” \nThis joyful picture-book homage to a day of community and inclusion—and to the joys of anticipation—is also a comprehensive history. With bright\, buoyant illustrations and lyrical\, age-appropriate rhyme modeled on “’Twas the Night Before Christmas\,” it tackles difficult content such as the Stonewall Riots and the AIDS marches. On the night before Pride\, families everywhere are preparing to partake. As one family packs snacks and makes signs\, an older sibling shares the importance of the march with the newest member of the family. Reflecting on the day\, the siblings agree that the best thing about Pride is getting to be yourself. Author Joanna McClintick and Pura Belpré Award–winning author-illustrator Juana Medina create a new classic that pays homage to the beauty of families of all compositions—and of all-inclusive love.

SUMMARY:Art & Nature Sunset Tours with the MFA & Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center
DESCRIPTION:Spend your Sunday immersed in art and nature! This unique program invites visitors to embark on a journey that celebrates the awe-inspiring beauty of nature and the role it plays in sparking human creativity. Begin the afternoon at the MFA with a guided docent tour of the collection galleries\, looking closely at artworks from throughout history and across the globe that were inspired by nature. From majestic landscapes to delicate still lifes to ancient sculptures\, each artwork highlights the deep connection between artists and the natural world. \nThe experience continues at the St. Pete Pier\, where you’ll board a sunset cruise with Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center’s expert marine science educators. Enjoy guided wildlife watching\, a visit to a local bird sanctuary\, learning about our area’s history\, and the beautiful scenery as the sky changes colors over the downtown skyline. There will be optional opportunities to get creative\, with all supplies provided\, and you’re encouraged to express your inspiration from the experience. \nThis partnership highlights how each of us contributes to protecting Tampa Bay and the environment as a whole. By showcasing the artistic and ecological importance of our region\, we aim to inspire a greater appreciation for nature’s beauty and encourage a lasting commitment to its preservation for future generations. \nArt & Nature Sunset Tours with the MFA & Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center\nSunday\, June 29\, 2025\n4:00 PM–8:45 PM\n$45 ($5 MFA Member discount offered)\nChildren under 3 free \nTour includes admission to the MFA and TBWDC\nArt & Nature Docent-Led Tour begins at the MFA at 4 pm\nSunset Tour with Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center begins at 7:45 pm \nTICKETS \nSee ALL Art & Nature Sunset Tours with the MFA & Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center Dates and Times:  \nSunday\, March 30 at 4:00 pm – Art & Nature Sunset Tour\nSunday\, April 27 at 4:00 pm – Art & Nature Sunset Tour\nSunday\, May 25 at 4:00 pm – Art & Nature Sunset Tour\nSunday\, June 29 at 4:00 pm – Art & Nature Sunset Tour \n

Her work pushes against traditional boundaries: her paintings have resisted not just frames\, but seemingly gravity; her abstract compositions have gone beyond the canvas to embrace the aural. Most recently\, Yankowitz has deepened her interest in technology and new media to create immersive environments that spotlight women-centered histories that have gone unknown for far too long. \nNina Yankowitz was born and raised in New Jersey and lives between New York City and Sag Harbor. Her works are in public collections\, including the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco\, San Francisco\, CA; Virginia Museum of History & Culture\, Richmond\, VA; and the Smith College Museum of Art\, Northampton\, MA. Her archival materials are found in the Archives of American Art\, Smithsonian Institution\, Washington\, D.C. Her 2022 solo exhibition at Eric Firestone Gallery garnered reviews in Artforum and Art in America\, and in 2024 she was inducted into the New York Foundation for the Arts’ Hall of Fame.
