Baluster-form Pitcher

c. 1860

Sterling silver, repoussé and chased

Anonymous gift

1990.16

This large pitcher would probably have been used for serving wine or water. It may have been designed by William Bogert, who was one of the finest American silversmiths of his time. Bogert produced rococo-inspired designs and provided wares for Ball, Black, & Company. More restrained than other rococo revival pieces, it is covered with ivy and vines and embellished with a bird on each side.
