Join us for an engaging discussion between Luis Seixas, objects conservator, and Dr. Stanton Thomas, Chief Curator, as they talk about the MFA’s recently acquired Spanish tabernacle. Currently the focus of Live Conservation: Restoring a 17^th Century Tabernacle, this remarkable object presents a number of fascinating questions, especially as it is meticulously cleaned and conserved.

This artful conversation will include a discussion of how the work changed over time, challenges associated with its restoration, surprising discoveries during the conservation process, thoughts about its original context, how it would have been used, and an exploration of its incredibly complicated symbolism. The event will also provide a chance for visitors to ask questions about the conservation process and the object itself.
