August Arts Passport Book Club | The Argonauts

August Arts Passport Book Club | The Argonauts
This August, the MFA partners with the Arts Passport Book Club and Tombolo Books for a special collaborative edition featuring The Argonauts by Maggie Nelson—a genre-defying meditation on love, identity, and queer family-making. Poetic, raw, and intellectually bold, Nelson’s writing offers a powerful lens through which to explore themes of transformation and intimacy.
On August 23, readers are invited to gather at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg for a morning of reflection and dialogue. The program includes a group discussion followed by a docent-led tour of Nina Yankowitz: In the Out/Out the In, the MFA’s current retrospective of pioneering multimedia artist Nina Yankowitz. This pairing offers an immersive experience that connects literature and visual art through shared questions of form, identity, and expression.
Arts Passport members receive a complimentary copy of The Argonauts from Tombolo Books, along with free admission to the museum.

She lives in St. Pete with her cat, Snooki, and moonlights as a project manager during the week.
ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS BY MAGGIE NELSON

An intrepid voyage out to the frontiers of the latest thinking about love, language, and family
Maggie Nelson’s The Argonauts is a genre-bending memoir, a work of “autotheory” offering fresh, fierce, and timely thinking about desire, identity, and the limitations and possibilities of love and language. It binds an account of Nelson’s relationship with her partner and a journey to and through a pregnancy to a rigorous exploration of sexuality, gender, and “family.” An insistence on radical individual freedom and the value of caretaking becomes the rallying cry for this thoughtful, unabashed, uncompromising book.
