Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
Saturday, January 16th, 2016
10am-4pm
Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg Bayview Room

Wikipedia’s gender trouble is well documented. In a 2010 survey it was revealed that less than 13% of its contributors identify as female. The practical effect of this disparity is clear—Wikipedia is clearly skewed in favor of male artists. This represents an inequality in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge. Edit-a-thons have taken place globally, encompassing 1,300 volunteers, 70 events on 4 continents, and nearly 400 new articles devoted to female artists. Complementing Marks Made: Prints by American Women Artists from the 1960s to the Present and Carrie Schneider’s Reading Women, this event aims to ensure the visibility of female artists in its permanent collection.
