Daily Workshop Themes

March 16 | Spring Break Teen Workshop: Paint!

This workshop will focus on Impressionism and the practice of painting “en plein  air”, or “in the open air.” After touring our collection with an MFA Docent to explore Impressionist artworks and the movements they inspired, teens will gather materials and sketch out ideas for their own paintings. We’ll then head outdoors to paint directly from observation, experimenting not only with color and light, but also with tools beyond traditional paintbrushes.

March 17 | Spring Break Teen Workshop: Collage and Mixed Media!

In this workshop, teens will explore artmaking through multiple mediums and materials.  The day begins with a docent-led tour of the MFA’s collection, highlighting the many innovative materials artists have used across time. Back in the classroom, students will use these inspirations to create their own mixed-media projects, including zines, found object sculptures, and more.

March 18 | Spring Break Teen Workshop: Print!

Discover the art of printmaking and explore the many materials you can print on – and with! Teens will learn a range of techniques, including sun prints, gelli plate monoprints, and linocut block printing. We’ll finish the workshop by learning how to professionally sign and number the prints we create.

March 19 | Spring Break Teen Workshop: Art and Archaeology

Travel back in time to explore the art and science of archaeology as teens investigate how the MFA’s Greek and Roman artworks help piece together the past. Guided by an MFA Docent, participants will create their own mosaics, clay works, and more—and take home a clay kit provided by our friends at Clay Co-Op, who will join us for the workshop.

March 20 | Spring Break Teen Workshop: Fiber Arts

Explore the creative world of natural and synthetic fibers, from patterned fabrics to textured threads, and learn how to transform them into original works of art. Teens will experiment with fashion design, embroidery, weaving, and more. Bonus! All participants will leave this workshop with their own sewing kit to continue creating at home.
